me 🤝🏻 rules
I love rules. I love enforcing them, I love the clarity they bring, I love following them (sometimes) (if they make sense), and I love creating them (shocker).
This is especially true with marketing–as such a subjective and creative industry (something can be deemed 'wrong' simply because it's aligned with someone's taste), consistency doesn't come easily. I'm the first one to say that each client has their own strategy, but there are 4 golden rules I stick to across all industries and all marekting channels that ensure quality and results:
being relatable
Honestly, if i could only have one rule, you already know it would be this one. I've said this a million times and I'll say it again: your audience is made of people, and people want to connect with other people. How do you connect with other people? By building relationships. And how do you build relationships? Mhm–by being relatable (kindness, empathy, and humor help too).
Your customers will convert once they feel related to, so throw away that façade and be human!
adding value
If you're not bringing something to the table, your audience will walk away. In an ever-evolving technology-filled world, people already have the attention span of a mosquito (they have short attention spans, right?) (I should know this, my parents are biologists) (ooops), and you want to keep their attention when you get it.
What can you teach them? What is something your product/service has to offer that's different form the rest? Is there a common misconception around your industry? This will keep you top of mind.
tracking analytics
Duh, this one's obvious–and my clients are nodding along. How do you know if something's working if you don't track it?
At the beginning of our professional relationship, my clients and I establish KPIs (key performance indicators) (metrics) that we deem important based on their goals. Every month, we review them to see how the content is performing, and we make changes along the way. No matter your industry, goals, or business stage–you need to be tracking analytics.
having fun
I'll keep this one simple: no one likes boring things, people or places... so don't be boring. Have fun with the content you're putting out! Trust me, it shows–and trust me, it helps.
Keep these in mind when you're doing anything marketing related for your brand, and you'll see the results (almost) immediately.
