your October trends and news recap
October, you kept us on our toes! Between pumpkin-spiced everything and a million deadlines, the month seemed endless—yet here we are, wondering where it went. While we scrambled through this month, social media trends and updates rolled on as fast as ever. So here’s your October trends and news roundup to get you caught up!
trend alert: 'oh I wasn't sad I just needed...'
Brands are using this phrase to plug their product as something people need or as something that will improve their lives, and they add a funny twist to it. I've seen so many brands using it by starting off sad and then getting handed the product to become happy.
how to use it:
You can use this phrase in many different ways but a few that I have seen (and loved)are: starting with the video being black and white and then getting handed the product (or the solution) and everything turning to color. Another popular way I’ve seen this be used is a customer seeming stressed until they receive your services (similar to the ‘before xyz’ vs ‘after xyz’ trend). This trend should show your customers why your product or service can improve their lives.
trend alert: 'running from the police'
The 'running from the police' trend took Instagram and TikTok by storm. This trend is where you run away from the camera, but then turn around and smile, and the verbiage that goes with it is satirical and used to show off a skill.
how to use it:
This is a great trend because of its versatility. This could be used to brag about your product or company, or for satire and humor. As an example, in my case: "when I'm being chased by the police and hear ‘the suspect is great at marketing.’"
TikTok update: TikTok expands subscriptions for creators
TikTok is now expanding opportunities given to subscribers. This will allow creators to personalize their most supportive followers' experience on their page via private communication channels, exclusive content, and customized perks. With this update, we can expect creators to up their content game and appeal to a more personal community.
how to use it:
With TikTok’s expanded subscriber features, brands now have the perfect opportunity to deepen connections with their most engaged followers. By using private communication channels, brands can create exclusive content that feels personal and tailored to their top fans, offering early access to new product launches, behind-the-scenes looks, or sneak peeks at upcoming campaigns. This can be a game-changer for boosting both engagement and brand loyalty on TikTok.
Instagram news: Meta updates brand safety controls
Meta is rolling out new tools to give you more control over your brand’s ad experience on Facebook and Instagram! You can now test a feature that allows you to turn off comments on ads before they go live—perfect for ensuring your promotions stay on message and look exactly how you want them.
how to use it:
By turning off comments before ads go live, you can keep your message focused and prevent distractions, ensuring that the spotlight stays on your brand and its offerings. This feature is especially useful for promotions where clarity and consistency are key, like product launches or time-sensitive offers. Brands can now feel more confident that their ads will look and perform exactly as intended, without the need for constant monitoring.
YAY! Another month of trends and news recap down. Are you feeling like a social media pro now? Well, even if you aren't–we're always here.
